Whats Better than a weekend in Key West? Flying in an airshow with the Blue Angels!
Team RV opened our 2010 airshow season in the Southernmost AIR SPECTACULAR at NAS Key West. This was the public debut of our new show routine incorporating Alpha flight performing formation aerobatic maneuvers opposing the standard Bravo/Charlie formation flight. Captain Holmes and the entire staff at NAS Key West made all the performers feel welcome and put on a terrific airshow. Wayne Boggs was Airboss and he ran a tight, safe show. Frank Smith was the announcer and at least in Team RV’s opinion, Frank is one of the best. It was a real treat to be flying with not only the Blue Angels, but also; Frank Cabanas, Tim Weber, Mike Wiskus, Franklin’s Flying Circus, The Horsemen, Viper West, Key West Aggressor Squadron, The C17 demo, and the Screamin Eagles parachute team. In addition to our standard show, Team RV flew; Circle the jumpers with a five ship formation. As the jumpers exited the aircraft and deployed their chutes, Kahuna brought Alpha flight in to circle with just lead smoking. As the Flag was displayed, all 4 wingmen added their smoke to the display for a great visual.
After the show on Saturday Team RV was invited to fly a few sponsors for the organizers. So we put up an 8 ship formation to give the riders a feel for what formation flight is like. I think they all had a great time, making three formation passes by Mallory Square just as the Sunset Crowd started to assemble.
